XML / XPath
XML, the eXtensible Markup Language, is an open standard for structured documents. It is quickly being accepted as an industry standard for storing data and information exchange. XML’s big advantage is that it is readable by humans but structured enough to be efficiently interpreted by computers. Most of the applications appearing on the market today use XML in some way or another.
